Term 1 2025 Weeks 5 & 6
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
I would like to share with you the report from the lovely ladies from the Loreto Rural Partnership about their week with us at Sacred Heart, Coolah.
Loreto Rural Partnership – Sacred Heart 2025
On Sunday the 2nd of March, 24 Loreto Normanhurst girls departed from Sydney with 8 girls heading to Dunedoo, 8 girls off to Gulgong and the rest of us, so excited to be staying here in Coolah! The highlight of our trip was being able to spend most of our week at Sacred Heart, where we had so much fun meeting the wonderful children and staff, playing with our new friends and helping where possible. Throughout the week we have loved being a part of this incredible Coolah community who has been so generous and welcoming to all of us from Sydney. Every day after lunch we taught the children the lessons that we had prepared. This included, Drama, Italian, Ancient History, Textiles and PE. We have had such an amazing time learning about farming and the towns history. For most of us, it was our first time experiencing the country lifestyle. We visited the Arnott’s farm where we saw sheep shearing and were able to drench some sheep ourselves. For Shrove Tuesday we loved making pancakes for everyone in the school. We then visited the Hallett’s farm where Mrs Hallett took us Yabby fishing. We caught so many and at the end had a Yabby race! The next day we really enjoyed being involved in the Ash Wednesday Mass and in the afternoon we had so much fun at the Dunlop's Farm, where we learnt about Santa Gertrudis cows and Sorghum. We couldn’t have visited all these places without Tup and Cheryl driving the bus! We have loved being able to see the homes and lifestyles of some of our Loreto boarders as they are so different from our lives in the city. We will forever cherish the memories we have made here in Coolah and are so grateful to have shared this experience with Sacred Heart Primary School.
The amazing 8x students and their 2x teachers immersed themselves in every aspect of school life at Sacred Heart. We relished their time with us and have certainly missed their presence this week.
Thank you ladies for the fantastic chicken feeder that arrived in the mail this week.
We have been extremely fortunate to enjoy such an excellent week with the Loreto students and teachers and look forward to future visits.

St. Patrick’s Day & St. Joseph’s Day Celebrations
March is a special month as we celebrate two important feast days in our Catholic tradition—St. Patrick’s Day (March 17) and St. Joseph’s Day (March 19).
On St. Patrick’s Day, we invite all students to wear green and bring a gold coin donation, which will go to Caritas to support those in need. This is a wonderful way to honor St. Patrick’s legacy of faith and generosity.
On St. Joseph’s Day, we will come together as a school community to attend Mass, reflecting on St. Joseph’s example of humility, service, and devotion.
May these feast days inspire us to live with faith, love, and generosity.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day and St. Joseph’s Day! ☘️🙏

News with Mrs Hallett
It’s been a great start to the year, and I’m so proud of how our students have settled into their new classrooms and groups.
In Maths, students have been diving right in, working together on engaging challenges that have sparked great discussions and problem-solving. Students eagerly explore new concepts and are growing in their confidence with numbers and shapes.

In English, students have been stepping into the shoes of authors and discovering the joy of creating their own stories. It's been amazing to watch their imaginations soar as they dive into the world of creating, they have a wonderful imagination!

Afternoons have been enjoyable as students come together to engage in Science. This term, the focus has been on the senses, and our young scientists have been busy exploring the world around them like real scientists! With magnifying glasses in hand, they’ve been observing tiny details, examining textures, smells, sounds, and even tastes. It’s amazing to see how much they enjoy learning through hands-on activities, and the curiosity they show is truly inspiring.

As we continue this school year, we are excited to see how our students will keep growing, learning, and enjoying each day together. Keep up the great work, everyone!

Year 5/6 News with Mrs Kitchin
In our writing lessons this week, students have been focusing on key storytelling elements to deepen their
narrative skills. They are learning to develop and construct complications that move their stories forward, exploring and applying literary techniques to build tension, and are examining how dialogue and quotation marks shape characterisation. Additionally, students have been analysing and developing engaging climaxes to captivate readers. They have also created anchor charts to describe people, places, and things, helping to bring their writing to life with more detail and engagement.
In Mathematics students have been developing their understanding and fluency by exploring and connecting key
concepts, selecting and applying appropriate strategies to solve problems, and clearly communicating their reasoning. We have been comparing and ordering fractions with denominators of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, and 10, as well as
determining fractions of measures and quantities, such as ½, ¼, ⅕, and 1/10.
This term in history, students are exploring Aboriginal Knowledges and Practices that contribute to caring for Country, along with the significance of revitalising Aboriginal Languages. Additionally, they are examining the development of Australian colonies and the formation of Australia as a nation, using various sources as evidence to deepen their understanding of our history.

Sport with Mrs Kitchin
So far this term in sport, we have had our swimming events. We began with our Pathways school competition, where three of our students—Isabella, Pippa, and Rex—progressed to Northern Region level. These students then travelled to Gulgong for the Northern Region Swimming Carnival, where they showed great sportsmanship, swam to the best of their ability, and received placings in their heats. Rex received 11 years boy champion and progressed to the Diocesan Carnival in Dubbo, where he competed well and has now progressed to Polding next month for butterfly and freestyle. Good luck, Rex!
On Wednesday, March 26th (Week 7), NRL will be hosting a Football Gala Day in Dunedoo for Stage 2 and 3 students (Years 3-6). Sacred Heart will join our friends from All Hallows Gulgong for the event. Students will be grouped into competitive and non-competitive teams based on their ability. It’s always a fun-filled day that the students really enjoy. A note has been posted on Compass for your information. If you have any questions or need further details, please email n.kitchin@bth.catholic.edu.au.
On Friday of Week 9 this term, we will hold our school cross country. All students will compete, but only those aged 8 years and up will progress to the Diocesan level, which will be held here on May 6th, Week 2 of Term 3. All parents are invited to attend, an invitation will be sent home shortly. We look forward to seeing you there.
